The village of Bishopsbourne lies in the Elham Valley, a beautiful area offering numerous walks and cycle tracks through the Kentish rural countryside. Many of these can be directly accessed from the village and we can recommend suitable routes for all abilities.

Our local pub, The Mermaid, is renowned for its hospitality and excellent local beer from Shepherd Neame. Lunches and evening meals are served during the week, Sunday lunches require prior booking. Check out the menus at

  • We also have an excellent cafe in the village, The Tadpole, which serves wonderful breakfasts, lunches and cakes. The nearby farm shop is renowned for it's meat and fresh fish, we also have an excellent bakery, Gilda.

    Within a short drive or stroll, the neighbouring villages of Bridge, Pett Bottom, Barham and Kingston also offer alternative choices of good dining. We have The Pig restaurant in Bridge which is a 15-20 minute walk plus a Michelin starred restaurant - The Bridge Arms, a further 5 minutes away, for those special occasions.

    The cultural city of Canterbury has something for everyone. From the magnificent cathedral to ghost and river tours, chic restaurants to street cafes, theatre to cinema, the city caters for all tastes.

    A short drive brings you to the coastal and historical towns of Whitstable, Dover and Sandwich, as well as many National Trust and English Heritage properties and locations.
